I guess baby girl wanted a different birth date!
Mother was in labour and admitted into Markham-Stouffville Hospital early in the afternoon, but it was just after midnight when their firstborn baby girl, Evelyn, was welcomed into the world.
With birthing sessions, I’m on call and ready to leave for the hospital at the sound of my phone ringing. When Mother told me that her waters had ruptured early in the morning, I knew I was going to head over to the hospital during the day. Since I live super close to MSH, I came by for a visit to see how the parents-to-be were doing. As contractions were still far apart, it was a great opportunity for me to walk around and photograph some establishing shots of the hospital and other details that would serve as a special reminder of what the birth date was like. (**See my establishing shots from the daytime here!**).
When I returned, the nurse told the expectant parents to get some rest, as it would not be until the evening when they do the next check. I was able to go home to get my boys into bed, and get some rest myself. When I came back, it was so much darker outside, which was a great experience for me as a photographer! I was able to capture some really cool comparison shots between the daytime and nighttime.
I am forever grateful to these parents for welcoming me into their first birth experience and having me capture this special time in their lives. Here is the rest of their birthing story captured through my lens:
